|Throughout Etihadís three year sponsorship we have celebrated our partnership with the ADGC by hosting innovative challenges for some of the championships leading players.
In year one the inaugural ‘Swing on the Wing’ took place with European Tour stars Ian Poulter and Paul Casey - where they had to hit their best drives from the aircraft wing, with Poulter managing a stunning 696 yard drive. Year two saw Trevor Immelma hit ten golf balls from the superyacht “Aviva” in the sea moored off the Emirates Palace Hotel beach onto a specially designed “Etihad world map” green. In year three golfing legend Sergio Garcia was invited to drive a golf ball along the longest straight of the Yas Marina Circuit, attempting to beat the Asian long drive record of 721 yards set by Sweden’s Henrik Stenson in 2007. Sergio was unsuccessful in beating Henrik’s record, however still drove a phenomenal 675 yards.
Etihad is also involved in a series of promotional activities surrounding the tournament as well as flying the players, officials and their equipment to the UAE.
