SWING ON THE WING
As one of the Diamond sponsors of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championships, Etihad Airways created a special setting for an attempt to break the World Long Drive Record in 2006 from the wing of a Boeing 767 aircraft.  European Tour stars Ian Poulter and Paul Casey hit their best drives from the aircraft wing, with Poulter managing a stunning 696 yard drive.

On January 17 2007, the magic was re-created. Stenson braved the wet and windy conditions to hit a drive of 721yards down the Abu Dhabi airport runway. He was challenged by Long Drive World Record holder Paul Slater - but unfortunately Slater was unable to emulate the same form as Stenson, with his longest drive reaching only 640 yards.

ROUND THE WORLD WITH ETIHAD AIRWAYS
Etihad Airways continues to ‘putt’ the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship on the map through their innovative ‘Round the World’ with Etihad Airways putting challange for local shoppers at one of the UAE capital’s leading shopping malls.

The Abu Dhabi based airline’s role as diamond sponsor of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship will swing into action at the Marina Mall from January 5th - 9th 2009, with shoppers invited to ‘putt’ their way round a series of holes on a specifically designed world map of Etihad’s global destinations.

Every participant in the ‘round the world’ putting challenge will have the opportunity to win tickets to the Abu Dhabi Golf Championships as well as entry into the Grand Prize draw with the lucky winners receiving a pair of tickets to Melbourne in Australia, Etihad’s latest destination which launches in March 2009.

The putting green will also be in operation at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championships so if you don’t make it to the Marina Mall then come along to the Golf Championships and join in the fun!
